Embrace The Unknown
Hey, how are ya?!
In my 25 years, I have experienced many things. One key concept that I have taken from those experiences is to Embrace The Unknown. I have had things given to me and taken away from me–some of which I may never get back. I have experienced both fortune and misfortune and I have learned a lot from those experiences.
In 2013, I first begin using a motorized scooter. I was an 18-year-old freshman on my way to college orientation at Quinnipiac University. When most young adults attend college for their first day, they may be nervous because of the new environment, the new people, or being away from their home/friends/family (a.k.a. their comfort zone) for the first time. Well, I had all of those nerves plus the nerves of being an 18-year-old needing a scooter to get around for the first time in my life.
During orientation, many of the older students, administrators, and my incoming classmates all kept imploring me to really Embrace The Unknown of college. After the 50th time I heard it, I remember saying in my head, “Alright, someone better tell me what the f%@$ that even means.” But, I was always told that through my experiences, I will discover the answer.
So, instead of being too afraid of going to college three hours away from my comfort zone, I chose to go and take the advice of Embracing the Unknown of my college experience. I am so glad that I did because the next four years were full of memories that I will cherish forever. It is ironic, too, as I even became an Orientation Leader a couple of years later at Quinnipiac. I thank 18-year-old me for listening and acting upon the advice I heard at orientation.
Now, it is my turn to annoy each of you by employing you all to Embrace The Unknown in your lives. Now more than ever, we live in an unpredictable world. So, do not just be ready to handle whatever obstacles that life throws at you, but instead be ready to handle and overcome these moments.
“You don’t have to have everything figured out. Embrace The Unknown and let your life surprise you.“
One Love, Joey
