Hey, how are ya?!
This past week marked the start of classes at my alma mater, Quinnipiac University. Prior to the first day of classes is welcome-weekend for the thousands of incoming freshmen of the class of 2022. During welcome weekend, the new students do various activities to learn more about Quinnipiac University, while settling into campus. One part of the weekend entails the current student body president giving a speech to the 3,000 new freshmen, giving them advice on how to make the most, as well as enjoy, their time at Quinnipiac.
This year’s speech was given by Student Body President Ryan Hicks, who is currently a senior, but was the sophomore class President when I served as Student Body President during my senior year. His speech was, in one word, amazing. He was confident in what he was saying, he spoke extremely well and ultimately gave great advice.
Ryan’s key message: Look up, it is where life happens.
Ryan’s speech was simple, and I believe that’s the way it should be. I thought he did an amazing job. I interpreted the speech as:
Life can seem either crazy or calm at times so always look up and reflect. Reflect on the friends and family that are in your life and how they got there, reflect on where your career or schoolwork is heading and reflect on anything in your life that is helping you achieve your goals. Always realize how fortunate you truly are – and if you’re not fortunate, do what you can to switch it up.
Great job Ry, proud of you brotha!
